Dr Wong graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Auckland and trained in neurology at Auckland Hospital.

He then completed Stroke Fellowships in USA and Canada.  He returned to New Zealand and worked as a neurologist at Wellington Hospital for five years.

He then returned to Auckland to work part-time at Auckland City Hospital as a general neurologist and at Middlemore Hospital as a stroke neurologist.
